CHRISTMAS DAY

What a day. I barely had time to enjoy lunch from running between my family to my boyfriends family and trying to get some sort of outfit together. I think I managed in the end and I did enjoy the day. I hope Santa was good to all of you. It was a very laid back Christmas for The Bearded Lady. Santa was kind enough to bring me these really cute hippie-style brown circular sunglasses by Mink Pink. I also got loads of comments on my DIY Christmas hair wreath. I think the best compliment I received was 'Christmas Fairy'. If you missed the tutorial you can find it here. I was also wearing my DIY fishtail hem skirt and if you haven't yet read that tutorial you can read it here.

DIY INSPIRATION [PROENZA SCHOULER] NEON STRIPE BAG

When I first sighted the Proenza Schouler neon stripe handbags a few months back in a magazine I was having one of those days where I'd left my phone at home and therefore felt naked. I felt a little shaken and unsure because if I found a picture of something I loved I'd quickly take a photo of it on my iPhone. At the time, all I had was my notebook and a pen so I quickly doodled a picture of it (and when I say quickly I mean in about 1 minute). I actually quite like the doodling of items I find inspiring. I guess it makes me feel a little less guilty about not drawing as often as I used to.

Being a photography graduate one of the big discussions among students and teachers was how with the changing technology of mobile photography that everybody is capable of being a 'photographer' and how we are all becoming a bit reliant on our mobiles when there is something we just HAVE to capture. There is this idea that we now take a photo so the mind can forget the memory. I made a pledge to myself that day when I forgot my phone to doodle down my inspirations, whatever they may be. I think it will get my creative juices flowing better, aid my memory and will help when I'm trying to plan out how to do a DIY.

With all that said I am planning on recreating this bag with some spray paint and some fabric. Stay tuned.

My drawing - with some Photoshop colouring in

Quite clearly the real deal

Stripe That Smile Off Your Face

I've always had a bit of a crush on stripes. They always seem to be one of those things that come back in style every few years, lucky for me. On the right piece of clothing stripes can be really flattering and I have always believed that stripes work best on loose fitting garments, as they don't draw attention to any unwanted curves we all may have and don't optically trick people into thinking we are bigger than we really are.

Here I am wearing a top that was originally long sleeved, tucked into vintage Levi black denim jeans cut into shorts, with a tan high waisted belt, red hat (for the bad hair day) and white cutout lace up boots.

Stripes work best when they're the feature of an outfit, so don't go too crazy with accessories and other crazy patterns, because more often than not it won't work. Keep it simple with stripes and the look will work for itself.

These shorts will be available for sale from The Bearded Lady online store, coming soon.
